TULSA, Okla. (10/19/12) – The Arkansas State
University women's tennis team closed out play in the ITA Regional Tournament
on Friday with matches in the main draws for singles and doubles.
Tamara Slijepcevic was defeated by No. 1 seed Petra Niedermayerova
(Kansas State) in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 in the first round of the main
draw. Slijepcevic was then beat in the
consolation round by Ksenia Pronina (Iowa State) 6-0, 6-1.
In main draw doubles action, Biljana Miloshevska/Slijepcevic lost
to Niedermayerova/Ivana Kubickova (Kansas State) 8-2.
Ioana Teu/Janie Nowland experienced first round success after they
defeated Maria Christensen/Alex Clark (Missouri) 8-6. Teu/Nowland took on Whitney Ritchie/Hermon
Brhane (Oklahoma) in the second round and lost 8-5.
“I am proud of Janie and Ioana, they played great doubles and had
an awesome win over Missouri.” Coach Marina Engelbrecht said.
The Red Wolves host their
next competition, the ASU Invitational, on Nov. 2-4 in Jonesboro. The ASU Invitational will be the last tournament
of the fall season.
