BOONE, N.C. (1/30/15) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 setback to Appalachian State in its second dual match of the 2015 seasons Friday afternoon at the Yonahlossee Racquet Club.

The Mountaineers (2-2) began the match by securing the doubles point with a pair of wins in two of the three doubles matches. The Red Wolves (0-2) pairing of Julie Gauguery/Victoria Pisani won their match over Clare Cox/Mackenzie LaSure with relative 6-3, but the other two had a much different outcome for A-State. Appalachian's State duo of Melissa Machado/Megan Mullen took down Tamara Slijepcevic/Sabina Jeresic 6-4, while McKayla Zupan/Gabrielle Wreder down A-State's Jess Heeps-Eriksen/Sofia Krsmanovic by the same score.

In single's competition Pisana registered Arkansas State's only victory of the afternoon in the No. 4 match by defeated Machado 6-4, 2-6, 10-8. In other matches, Slijepcevic lost Cox 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 1 match, while Gauguery lost to LaSure 7-6, 6-2 in the No. 2 match. In the No. 3 match Jeresic lost to Brianna Armellino 6-3, 6-2, while Heeps-Eriksen lost to Wreder 7-6, 6-0 in the No. 5 match. In the day's final match, Daria Iurchenkso lost to Mullen 6-2, 6-4.

“It was a disappointing loss,” A-State tennis coach Marina Cooper said. “We have to learn to close out matches and win important points.”

The Red Wolves will return to the courts Saturday morning for a 9 a.m. match against Davidson. A-State returns home on Friday, Feb. 6 for a matchup with regional opponent Southeast Missouri at the RidgePointe Country Club.
