LOUISVILLE, Ky. & LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (10/17/15) – The Arkansas State University men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up their pre-championship racing this Saturday (Oct. 17) as the Red Wolves were represented at both the Louisville Pre National Invitational and the Little Rock Invitational.
The two meets represented the final regular-season appearance for A-State, which is now idle until Sunday, Nov. 1, when the Red Wolves compete in the 2015 Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Championships at Atlanta, Ga.
The A-State women's team placed 27th at the highly competitive Louisville Pre National Invitational. The Red Wolves, with an average time of 22:44.32, were led by senior Abbey Dixon in the 6k Black Race on the course at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park. Dixon ran a team-best 21:02.40 time to finish 10th and sophomore Arnica Zitting clocked a 21:59.80 time to earn 63rd-place honors among the 237 competitors. Freshman Kyandra Chandler was just outside the top-100 as she clocked a time of 22:22.80 for 104th-place.
In the men's competition at Louisville Pre National, the Red Wolves harriers posted an average of 25:57.50 on the 8K Black Race course. Senior Wil Norris paced A-State with a 66th-place performance with a time of 25:07.90. Senior Drew Mueller clocked a 25:46.90 time to rank 136th while freshman Josh Kruse ran a 25:53.20 to finish 143rd.
The remainder of the men's team competed at the Little Rock Invitational and was led by junior Andre Walker. Turning in a 51st-place performance with a time of 28:43.60 on the 8k course, Walker was one of five Red Wolves to finish inside the top-65 finishers. Junior Roosevel Barnett was 56th with a time of 29:41.10 with freshmen Parker Sitton (29:42.80 and Sean Martin (30:11.10) on his heels for 57th and 58th-place, respectively. Freshman Mark Winn ranked 65th clocking a time of 32:30.20.
