KEY STORYLINES 

• This is the 42nd season of women's basketball at Arkansas State.

• The Red Wolves have an all-time record of 230-143 against league teams.

• A-State is 18-15 all-time in conference openers, which includes time in the Southland, American South and Sun Belt conferences.

• A-State is 13-11 all-time in SBC openers. 

• Wednesday's game marks the fourth straight season that A-State has opened league play on the road.

• The Red Wolves are 6-6 all-time when it opens SBC play on the road. 

• A-State head coach Brian Boyer is 9-7 all-time in SBC openers. 

• Wednesday's game is the first time that A-State and Troy have played in an SBC opener.

• This marks the 25th season for A-State in the Sun Belt Conference.

AN A-STATE WIN WOULD

• Give the Red Wolves their first 7-3 start to a season since 1997-98

• Make the Red Wolves 7-3 through their first 10 games for the sixth time in their history.

• Make A-State 14-11 all-time in SBC openers. 

• Give the Red Wolves their fourth straight victory in an SBC opener.

• Give Arkansas State its 31st SBC victory over the last three years.

• Give the Red Wolves their 53rd victory over the last three years.

• Give A-State head coach Brian Boyer his 279th career win. 

 

ATTEMPTS AT HISTORY

• Arkansas State attempted 30, 3-point shots at Nebraska on Dec. 21, tying the school record for most attempts in a game. 

• The other instance took place against Missouri State on Dec. 20, 2011.

• The Red Wolves also attempted 83 field goals, nearly equaling the school record of 89 against Arkansas College in 1974-75.

 

TOUGH ONES TO TAKE

• In each of A-State's three losses this season the Red Wolves have led their opponents in the fourth quarters.

• The combined record Chattanooga, Florida and Nebraska (the 3 losses) is 28-7 and all three are ranked in the top-100 RPI.

• A-State total margin of loss has been just 13 points in its three setbacks. 

 

TAKING CARE OF THE BASKETBALL

• Arkansas State has committed the seventh fewest turnovers in the nation through non-conference play.

• A-State has turned the ball over just 124 times on the year and is one of just 12 teams with less than 130 turnovers on the year.

• Troy ranks 144th in the nation with 174 turnovers on the year.

 

A CLASSIC GAMBLE PERFORMANCE

•  Aundrea Gamble turned in perhaps her best performance of the season in the Red Wolves' most recent outing against Nebraska (Dec. 21).

• The senior recorded her seventh career double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds in the eight point loss to the Huskers. 

• It was just the second time in Gamble's career that A-State has lost when she recorded a 

double-double. The last time was against UTEP in the WNIT in 2014.

 

THE MORE ANALYTICAL THE BETTER

• A-State is averaging 99.4 points per 100 possessions, meaning A-State is scoring on nearly half of it's trips on the offensive end.

• The ORTg (offensive team rating) number ranks second during the Brian Boyer era. The 2014-15 team had a rating 101.7. 

• Last year's is the only two team with a number in the 100s. The previous high was during the 2004-05 season when the team had a number of 93.0. 

• Traditionally Boyer's team have averaged an ORTg somewhere between 86-88. 

 

IMPRESSIVE NUMBERS

Khadija Brown-Haywood has had an impressive start to the 2015-16 season and has put up a slew of eye-popping numbers. 

• She leads the Sun Belt Conference in rebounding with 8.7 boards per contest.

• She also ranks in the top-10 in scoring with 14.1 points per night.

• She is the only player in the conference to rank in the top-10 in points, rebounds and steals per game. 

 

WE'RE GOING STREAKING

• A-State has won 14 straight games home games dating back to the 2013-14 season.

• The streak is tied for the 10th longest in the nation.

• South Carolina has the longest home winning streak at 39 games.

 

DOUBLE-DOUBLE TIMES TWO

Khadija Brown-Haywood recorded her second straight
double-double in the Red Wolves 82-50 victory over Alcorn State on Dec. 12.

• She is the first A-State player to record back-to-back doubles since Jalen O'Bannon did it in 2014.

• Brown-Haywood currently leads the Sun Belt with 8.9 rebounds per game. 

 

THOU SHALL STEAL

• A-State recorded double-digit in its first 8 games, the longest streak in school history.

• The Red Wolves had double-digit steals in just 10 games in 2014-15.

 

A VERY EXCLUSIVE CLUB

Aundrea Gamble recently became just the 14th player in school history to accumulate 150 career steals.

• She is also on the verge of becoming just the fifth student-athlete in school history to amass 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists and 150 steals in a career. She has already hit the marks for points and assists and needs 63 more rebounds for 500 for her career.

 

NO PARTY FOULS AT A-STATE

• The Red Wolves have committed the 10th fewest fouls in the country (138) entering Wednesday's contest.

• Troy has committed 221 fouls on the year, which ranks 277th in the nation.

 

WELL-CONDITIONED

Aundrea Gamble has made a habit of playing a lot minutes throughout her career. Out of her 78 career games, she has played 35 or more minutes in 63 of those contests. 

• Gamble has played 40 or more minutes in a game 21 times in her career. 

• She has averaged 36.9 minutes per game in her career.

Khadija Brown-Haywood has also seen her overall playing time rise this season and has played 35 or more minutes in six games this season.

 

A TOUGH PLACE TO WIN

• A-State became just the 10th team since Florida Gulf Coast became Division I in 2006-07 to defeat the Eagles on their home court.

• With the 62-48 victory, A-State made FGCU 116-10 (as of Nov. 28) on their home court since joining Division I.

 

DOUBLE-DIGIT BOARDS

Khadija Brown-Haywood has had back-to-back games where she has collected 10 rebounds (10 vs Chattanooga & 10 vs FGCU).

• She is the first A-State player to have back-to-back double-digit rebounds games since Jalen O'Bannon had three straight games in 2013-14.

 

GIMMIE ONE STEP, TWO STEPS, THREE STEPS FOR THREE

• A-State drained nine 3-pointers against Chattanooga, the most since it made 10 against Louisiana-Lafayette on March 8, 2014.

• A-State also took 24, 3-pointers against Chattanooga, the most since it had 26 against UT Martin on Nov. 11, 2013. 

• This is the second time A-State has taken 20 or more 3-pointers in a game this season. It took 23 in the season opener at Tennessee Tech.

 

STIFLING DEFENSE

• The Arkansas State defense held Wichita State to just 40 points on Nov. 21 at the Convocation Center, the lowest total since 2014-15 when A-State held Christian Brothers to 39 points. 

• That 40 points is the lowest total for Division I opponent since the Northern Arizona scored 40 against A-State during the 2008-09 season.

 

THE SIXTH SENSE

• A-State committed just six fouls against Wichita State on Nov. 21, it's lowest total in a game since 2012.

• A-State had just six fouls against Louisiana-Lafayette in 2012, with the most recent occurrence on Feb. 11, 2012 at Lafayette.

 

I'M LOVIN' IT

• Arkansas State has three players on its roster that were McDonald's High School All-America nominees. 

• Brittany Fowler was nominee during her senior of high school in 2012-13, while current 

freshmen Aaliyah Warren and Lauren Bradshaw were nominees in 2013-14.
