ESTERO, Fla. (2/14/16) – Led by three players collecting a top-25 finish, the Arkansas State women's golf team tied for seventh place at the FGCU Eagle Invitational that came to a close Sunday at the Stoneybrook Golf Club.
The Red Wolves shot a final-round 312, giving them a combined 924 score for three-day, 54-hole tournament. A-State ended the first round tied for sixth place after shooting a 310, but took over sole possession of the spot yesterday after recording a 302.
A-State finished tied with Southern Illinois and ahead of seven other teams in the 15-field tournament. Mercer claimed the title with an 894, while Toledo took runner-up honors with a 903 and Elon finished third with a 914.
Aracelly Jimenez Rios led the Red Wolves with a combined 226 that put her in a tie for ninth place. Like Jimenez Rios, Sarah Childers shot a final-round 81 that gave her a 227 total and left her tied for 11th.
Also finishing among the top-25 individual leaders for A-State, Beth Ann Compton posted a 230 to tie for 24th place. Her three-round total included a 75 today, which was the team's lowest score for the final 18 holes.
Participating as an individual, Kirsten Garner finished tied for 46th place with a 238. Olivia Loiacano placed tied for 70th with a 247 and Maci Brooks tied for 75th with a 249.
Arkansas State returns to action Feb. 26-28 at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational.
