JONESBORO, Ark. (5/24/16) – Arkansas State outfielder Ty White has been named the College Sports Madness Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week after helping the Red Wolves to a 3-1 mark during last week's action the online publication announced Tuesday.
A native of Gladstone, Mo., White hit .600 (12-for-20) with a team-best 15 total bases and six RBIs to tie for the team high in a week featuring three A-State victories, including an 8-6 decision over No. 6 Ole Miss and taking two games of a three-game set against in-state rival Little Rock. He also scored four runs and had a double and a triple during the four contests.
The senior posted four base knocks against the Rebels, including a key RBI triple late in the game, and scored two runs. He went on to register multiple hits in each game of the Little Rock series, including three each in the last two contests. He knocked in four runs in the second game of the set and scored two in the final game.
White is hitting .303, the second best mark on the team, and is tied for the team lead in triples (3) and stolen bases (10). He has the most hits on the team with 69 and has scored 35 runs along with hitting the first two home runs of his career earlier in the campaign. He is one of only two players to start and play in all 54 games for the Red Wolves this season.
A-State finished the regular season with a 27-27 record and 13-17 mark in Sun Belt Conference play to earn the eighth seed in the league tournament. The team has won seven of its last nine games and won eight of its last 12 conference games to clinch its seventh straight berth in the SBC Tournament.
The Arkansas State baseball team underwent a morning practice session today and will open the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Tournament against the top seed Louisiana-Lafayette Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Bobcat Ballpark.
