JONESBORO, Ark. (11/19/18) – Arkansas State senior defensive back Justin Clifton has been named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week after collecting a season-high two interceptions and a touchdown in the Red Wolves' 31-17 victory over ULM this past weekend.
Clifton intercepted Warhawks quarterback Caleb Evans on the opening drive of the second half and returned 43 yards for a touchdown to give A-State a 24-7 lead. He picked off Evans again in the fourth quarter to end any chance of a late rally by ULM. He was also part of a defence that limited ULM to just 276 yards of total offense and 17 points.
Clifton's two interceptions tied his career high and matched the most by a Sun Belt Conference player this season. The Tupelo, Miss., native now has three total passes defended this season to give him 30 for his career, which ties the fifth most ever by a Sun Belt player.
Arkansas State remains in the hunt for the SBC West Division title and will travel to Texas State Saturday, Nov. 24. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. and the game will be aired on ESPN3.
