JONESBORO, Ark. (3/16/19) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team opened up its 2019 Sun Belt Conference schedule with a 4-0 loss to Coastal Carolina Saturday morning at the A-State Tennis Complex.
The Chanticleers took an early advantage in the match by capturing the doubles' point with wins on courts two and three. Shelby King and Shannon O'Brien lost to Jennifer Brown and Jessie Mount 6-3, while Amelia Guevremont and Pornpawee Pramethong lost to Alexa Tiefel and Alicja Zduniak 6-3.
On the single's courts Anita Detlava lost to Somer Dalla-Bona 6-1, 6-4 on court three, while Berta Masdevall Masip dropped her court four match to Zaduniak 6-4, 6-3. CCU clinched the match when Tiefel defeated Guevremont 6-1, 6-2.
Pramethong looked to be in control of her court one matchup and was leading 6-4, 5-4 and was in deuce for match point when the Chants clinched the overall match. King dropped her first set 6-3 on court two, but rallied back for a 6-0 second set to force a third match. She was down 1-0 at the time of the clinching point.
O'Brien was down 6-4, 4-1 to Mount on court five in her match that went unfinished.
A-State returns to the courts Sunday, March 17 against Appalachian State. First serve is set for 10 a.m. from the A-State Tennis Complex.
