A-State Yields 4-3 Decision to Appalachian State

JONESBORO, Ark. (3/17/19) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team fell to Appalachian State 4-3 Sunday morning in a Sun Belt Conference match at the A-State Tennis Complex.

Pornpawee Pramethong, Shannon O'Brien and Amelia Guevremont each captured points for the Red Wolves, but it was not enough as the Mountaineers took an early advantage with the doubles point and won three more matches in singles' play to take the overall match victory.

Pramethong looked dominant in her performance on court one with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Teodora Sevo. The newcomer never trailed in either set, but the match away with a strong showing in the game final game of the second set to finish the weekend 1-0 after being just a point away from securing a win on Saturday when her match suspended.

On court six, Guevremont downed Sandra Anglesjo 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) in a tough back-and-forth contest that came down to a second set tie-break. The sophomore from Montreal, Canada cruised in her first set and looked to be in control in the second set up 5-4, before Anglesjo rallied back to tie the set at 6-6. Guevremont battled tough in the tie break, never trailing and prevailed with two points for the final point of the afternoon for A-State.

O'Brien also battled tough in her match on court five and rallied for a 5-7, 6-4, 10-5 win. She fell behind in the match with her first set loss, but then took control in the second set with solid play and limited her unforced errors. In the third set, which was played to the first to 10 points after the overall match had been decided, she raced out to an early lead and never relinquished it to secure the win.

In other matches, Shelby King lost to Kate Earnhardt 6-2, 6-4 on court two, while Anita Detlava lost to Jeannez Daniel 6-2, 6-2 on court three. Rebecca More clinched the match for Appalachian State with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Berta Masdevall Masip on court four.

A-State returns to the courts next weekend with a pair of road matches against Georgia Southern and Georgia State.
