STRUTHERS, Ohio (10/15/21) – Ranked No. 3 in the preseason poll released by the National Tenpin Coaches Association poll relased Friday afternoon, the Arkansas State women's bowling squad bean the 2021-22 season Friday with five Baker matches in the first day of the MOTIV Penguin Classic at Holiday Bowl.

Going 2-3 in head-to-head Baker matches on the day, the Red Wolves are third in the total pinfall rankings heading into day two of competition Saturday. Host Youngstown State leads the total pinfall at 4,846 with Lewis University second with 4,752. A-State totaled 4,743 pins, an average of 189.7 per game, Friday ahead of fourth place Morgan State (4,699) and fifth place Duquesne (4,668).

The Red Wolves dropped the first Baker matchup against Morgan State 1,071-871 and Lewis University edged A-State 907-906 in the second Baker match. Duquesne rolled to a 1,027-992 decision in match three, but the Red Wolves rallied back to take matches four and five on the day. A-State tallied its best total on the day with a 1,016-899 margin against Mercyhurst and followed with a 958-877 total against Valparaiso in the final match of the day.

A-State will bowl five traditional matches Saturday, beginning at 8:00 a.m. (CT) against Morgan State. The Red Wolves then face Medaille, Walsh, Youngstown State and Saint Francis to close out Saturday's competition. Teams will be seeded based on total pinfall from the first two days for three best-of-seven Baker matches on Sunday to determine a champion.
