JONESBORO, Ark. (4/8/21) – An action-packed weekend awaits the Arkansas State track and field teams, as athletes will be spread out across three different meets Friday and Saturday.
Some athletes are slated to travel to Athens, Georgia, for the Spec Towns Invitational Friday and Saturday, while others will compete on Saturday either at the Wichita State Open in Wichita, Kansas, or at the Little Rock Open.
The meet begins at 9:30 a.m., but A-State's first event at the Spec Towns Invitational is set to start at 11:10 a.m. with the women's 4x100m relay. On Saturday, the women's shot put kicks things off at 10 a.m. Both days will be broadcasted live on SEC Network+.
In Little Rock, A-State's first event will be the women's high jump at 11 a.m. The women's 5000m kicks off the track events at 11:30 a.m.
A host of distance athletes will represent the Red Wolves in Wichita, starting with the women's 3000m steeplechase at 7:30 p.m.

A-STATE IN THE SUN BELT CONFERENCE: Eleven A-State men rank inside the top five in the Sun Belt Conference entering this weekend. Daidren Davis (400m hurdles), Aimar Palma Simo (hammer) and Eron Carter (discus) all rank second in the league, in addition to A-State's men's 4x400m relay team of Jermie Walker, Kobey Hill, Davis and Addison Ross.
Seven women are inside the top five in the conference, led by Pauline Meyer (5000m) and Babette Vandeput (discus) in the top spots in their events. Allie Hensley and Grace Flowers rank second in the high jump and hammer throw, respectively, while Sophie Leathers (5000m), Avery Shell (pole vault) and Evangelynn Harris (shot put) are third in their events.
A-STATE IN THE NCAA WEST REGION: The Red Wolves own eight marks inside the top 50 in the NCAA West Region on the men's side, three inside the top 32. Aimar Palma Simo leads the way at eighth in the hammer (65.46m | 214-9.0). Daidren Davis is 17th in the 400m hurdles (51.90) and Eron Carter is 19th in the discus (54.64m | 179-3.0).
A-State owns four marks inside the top 50 in the region on the women's side, with two inside the top 32: Babette Vandeput is currently 15th in the discus (22nd in the NCAA) with a mark of 53.75m (176-4.0) while Allie Hensley is 31st in the high jump with a clearance of 1.74m (5-8.5).
VANDEPUT EARNS #SUNBELTOTF WEEKLY HONORS: Posting her second discus throw victory in as many meets, including a huge personal best throw last weekend at UAB, Babette Vandeput was tabbed Sun Belt Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
#EVENTSQUAD: After two meets, Arkansas State ranks ninth nationally in the women's discus throw in the USTFCCCA's #EventSquad Rankings with an average of 48.92m (160-6.0). Babette Vandeput leads the way with a mark of 53.75m (176-4.0) set last weekend at UAB.
UP NEXT
After returning to Jonesboro, A-State will host the Red Wolves Open, its first outdoor meet since the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships. The meet will be held Friday and Saturday, April 16-17, at the A-State Track & Field Complex.
