JONESBORO, Ark. (5/6/21) – After breaking the school record in the men's 1500m this past weekend, Arkansas State's Seth Waters was named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Thursday.
Waters took over the conference lead in the men's 1500m, running 3:44.32 on Friday at the Maroon and White Invite in Starkville, Mississippi. The Harrison, Arkansas, native broke Bennett Pascoe's record of 3:45.27 that was set two weeks earlier, shattering Bob Giersberg's 53-year-old program-best mark.
He owns the team lead in two events, both the 800m and 1500m, while ranking second in the 800m and first in the 1500m.
Thursday's honor marks the second of the year for Waters, as he was named Men's Track Athlete of the Week on February 18, prior to the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships. It is the 19th total weekly honor for the Red Wolves, split among 12 athletes. Ten of those 19 awards have been men's or women's Track Athlete of the Week laurels, with nine of the 10 being A-State distance athletes.
