HOMECOMING

Following a three-game road swing, we’re excited for our football team to be back inside Centennial Bank Stadium playing in front of a Homecoming crowd this Saturday at 6:00 p.m. against ULM. There are still a lot of great Homecoming events occurring the remainder of this week ahead of the game, including the annual Homecoming Parade on Thursday and bonfire on Friday.

Our Athletics Department and the Red Wolves Foundation are offering fans and donors a special ticket and tailgating package for Saturday’s game, as well as our home game next week against James Madison.  You can also check out our official A-State Athletics Facebook page (@AStateRedWolves) or click here for a chance to win a swag bag and two tickets to a future A-State home game.

Hytrol is our game sponsor this week, and a game-day timeline, ticket information, parking details, tailgating details and much more can be found on the Know Before You Go page of AStateRedWolves.com.  We hope to see you in Halsey Thrasher Harpole Tailgate City this Saturday for Red Wolf Walk at 3:45 p.m.

The Old Warriors group, made up our former football student-athletes, and the A-State Lettermen’s Club will be holding their annual Homecoming tailgate in this area, and all former letterwinners are welcome to participate.

HALL OF HONOR

Congratulations to A-State greats Cleo Lemon, Corey Leonard, Marissa Martinek and Corey Williams, this year’s A-State Athletics Hall of Honor class. The Lettermen’s Club will induct the four new members into the Hall of Honor at its annual banquet, set for Friday, Oct. 7, at the Woodard McAlister Family Club inside the Johnny Allison Tower of Centennial Bank Stadium.

RHODES INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONS

Two more team titles were won by our men’s and women’s cross country teams as both finished first at the Rhodes Invitational on Sept. 17.  Both squads also began the season by winning the Little Rock Invitational, and they compete again Friday in the Chile Pepper Festival.

BACK-TO-BACK

Our women’s soccer team won both of its games last week, topping Marshall 3-2 and Troy 2-1, to bring its Sun Belt Conference record to 2-1 this year and 17-3-2 over its last 22 league matches.  The Red Wolves play at Georgia Southern this Sunday, but then return home for a 3:00 p.m. game versus Louisiana on Thursday, Oct. 6, at the A-State Soccer Park.

SEE YOU THERE

While our Homecoming football game Saturday against ULM is our only home contest scheduled for this week, we have multiple sports competing at home the following two weeks and need your support at our venues to cheer on the Red Wolves.

Next week, soccer will host Louisiana on Thursday (Oct. 6), volleyball will play a pair of matches at First National Bank Arena against South Alabama on Thursday and Friday (Oct. 6-7) and football will face James Madison on Saturday (Oct. 8) at Centennial Bank Stadium.

Our men’s and women’s golf teams will host their annual home tournaments Oct. 10-11 at RidgePointe Country Club and Sage Meadows Country Club, respectively.

That will bring us to our next State of the Pack edition on Oct. 12, when we’ll again highlight our upcoming events so you don’t miss any of the action.

FALL BALL

With 22 newcomers joining our baseball program ahead of the fall semester, the new-look 2023 Red Wolves took the field for the first time as a team yesterday. Practices and scrimmages at Tomlinson Stadium-Kell Field are open to the public.  Scrimmage dates and times can be found here.

BOOTS & BALLERS

Remember to mark your calendars for Oct. 20, when our men’s basketball program will host its annual “Boots and Ballers” event at First National Bank Arena. There are limited tickets remaining for this great opportunity to meet the team, engage with fellow A-State fans and much more.

CAMPUS SPOTLIGHT

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe will present the fall 2022 Corinne Sternheimer Greenfield Lecture at Arkansas State University.  Titled “From a Tar Paper Shack to the Governor’s Mansion: The Impact of Higher Education on the Life of Governor Mike Beebe,” his presentation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, in the Drama Theatre of Fowler Center.  The public is welcome, and admission is free.

Congratulations again to Dr. Gil Fowler, Chad Niell and the family of the late Herman Strickland Jr. as all three were recently announced as selections for Arkansas State University’s Distinguished Alumni Awards.  I included this in the previous State of the Pack edition, but want to remind everyone that a halftime ceremony recognizing this year’s honorees is scheduled for our Red Wolves’ Homecoming game Saturday.
