Red Wolves Drop Conference Home Opener to South Alabama

JONESBORO, Ark. (3/18/23) – South Alabama swept the Arkansas State women's tennis team 7-0 Saturday in the conference home opener on the indoor courts at RidgePointe Country Club.

South Alabama (12-1, 2-0) took the doubles point to gain the early advantage. A-State's No. 1 doubles pair of Sarah Millard and Sofia Vdovychenko led 5-4 in their match, but the Red Wolves No. 2 doubles pair of Anna Borovinskaya and Rebecca Brody fell 6-0. Over at No. 3 doubles, Yasmine Humbert and Abigail Thurmer fell 6-2 clinching the point for the Jaguars.

A-State (1-8, 0-3) fell behind 2-0 with Elysia Pool winning on court three 6-3, 6-0 over Vdovychenko. The Jaguars extended the lead to 3-0 with Nikola Novotna winning on court two, 6-3, 6-4, over Brody. South Alabama clinched the match with Luminita Tutunaru overcoming a valiant effort from Millard, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. Borovinskaya dropped her contest 6-0, 6-1 to Tereza Dejnozkova on court five while Thurmer came up short 6-2, 6-3 to Delien Kleinhans on court four. In the final match, Humbert lost a hard-fought match 6-4, 6-1 to Chems Zeghlouli.
