A-State 5-0 on Day Two of Penguin Classic

STRUTHERS, Ohio (10/12/24) – The Arkansas State women's bowling team was a perfect 5-0 in traditional matches Saturday at the Penguin Classic.

Nine bowlers combined for 5,017 pins for A-State over the five traditional matches. The Red Wolves enter bracket play fifth overall with 9,876 pins for an average of 197.5. Nebraska leads the field with 10,702 pins followed by Wichita State (10,574), Youngstown State (10,362) and Duquesne (10,078).

A-State showed steady improvement throughout the day opening with a 943-832 win over Bryant. A 991-850 win over Roberts Wesleyan marked the second win of the day and the Red Wolves followed with a 1,004-957 tally against Central Missouri. A-State made it 4-0 with a 1,034-925 victory against Wright State and closed out the perfect day with a 1,045-978 margin against No. 25 Niagara.

Junior transfer Kaylee Back paced the Red Wolves with a five-game total pinfall of 1,073 pins for an average of 214.6. Beck rolled four games of 200-plus, including a high of 234 against Wright State. Maggie Thoma downed 1,068 pins over five games to average 213.6. Thoma had the high tally of the day among A-State bowlers with a 248 against Niagara. Karli VanDuinen also bowled all five games and totaled 982 pins for an average of 196.4. Saralyne Nassberg totaled 597 pins over three games (199.0), Amanda Lang totaled 410 over two games (205.0), Malaya Chavez added 359 pins over two games (179.5) while Alex-Anne Auclair (178), Melanie Straub (178) and Katie Ruszczak (172) bowled a game each.

A-State meets Valparaiso in the first of three bracket matches Sunday at Holiday Bowl.
