Box Score JONESBORO, Ark. (2/24/24) – Closing out the home portion of the non-conference schedule, the Arkansas State women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 setback to Jacksonville State Saturday at the Jonesboro Country Club tennis courts.
A-State (4-4) dropped a hard-fought doubles point to face an early deficit. Anna Grigoreva and Abigail Thurmer downed the No. 2 pair for Jacksonville State 6-2, but Yasmine Humber and Sarah Millard came up short on court one by the same tally. Over on court three, Nejla Zukic and Ariadna Fernandez came up just short in a 7-5 decision.
Jacksonville State (4-4) clinched the match with wins on the first three singles matches played. Millard fell 6-4, 6-0 on court three, Humbert came up short 6-3, 6-0 on court one and Grigoreva dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision on court two. Zukic got the Red Wolves on the board with a 7-6, 6-4 win on court four, but Jacksonville State closed out the match with Fernandez falling in a tightly-contested 6-3, 7-6 setback and Rebecca Brody coming up just short on court six 6-2, 6-7, 1-0.
A-State returns to action March 2-3 with matches against Bradley and Southeast Missouri played in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The Red Wolves next home match is the conference home opener on March 23 against Marshall.
