Box Score JONESBORO, Ark. (3/28/24) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team earned the doubles point in dramatic fashion against No. 68 Old Dominion, but the Monarchs came back to defeat the Red Wolves 6-1 Thursday afternoon at the A-State Tennis Courts.
A-State (7-9, 1-4 Sun Belt) won the doubles point by way of a tiebreaker on court two, but the Monarchs won singles matches on court one, four, five and six to clinch the comeback. Nejla Zukic and Rebecca Brody cruised to a 6-1 decision on court three, but Yasmine Humbert and Sarah Millard fell 6-3 on court one setting up the pivotal decision on court two. Forced to a tiebreak, Anna Grigoreva and Abigail Thurmer rallied back from an early 2-0 deficit to take the tiebreak 8-6 and clinch the doubles point.
Humbert dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision on court one to Sofia Johnson and Kira Matushkina gave Old Dominion a 2-1 lead with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Brody on court five. Ariadna Fernandez battled in the second set but fell to Ulyana Romanova 6-3, 7-5 putting the Monarchs on the brink of victory. Millard took the first set on court four against Lidiia Matushkini 6-2, but Matushkini came back for the 2-6, 6-0, 6-2 win to clinch the match. Grigoreva won her first set 6-4, but Alexandra Viktorovich came back for the 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 win. Zukic took her first set 6-3, but Allison Isaacs answered back for a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 score to end the match at 6-1.
