MOBILE, Ala. (3/9/24) – Opening its Sun Belt Conference schedule, the Arkansas State women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision at South Alabama Saturday afternoon.
A-State (5-6, 0-1) fell behind early dropping the doubles point. South Alabama (7-2, 1-0) took the lead in doubles on court three with the Jaguars pair earning a 6-1 decision over Nejla Zukic and Rebbeca Brody. Over on court one, Yasmine Humbert and Sarah Millard battled, but the Jaguars came away with a 7-5 victory to clinch the doubles point. Anna Grigoreva and Abigail Thurmer led 5-3 on court two when South Alabama clinched the doubles tally.
South Alabama took a 2-0 advantage with Tereza Dejnozkova topping Humbert 6-3, 6-0 on court one. Ariadna Fernandez fell 6-1, 6-0 on court six to Delien Kleinhans as the Jaguars advantage grew to 3-0. Elysia Pool clinched the match for South Alabama with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court two against Grigoreva. In remaining matches, Zukic was tied at a set apiece on court three with Nikola Novotna 6-4, 2-6 and Millard was tied at a set apiece on court four with Manal Ennaciri 2-6, 7-5. Brody trailed 6-4, 4-4 on court five against Chems Doha Zeghloui.
A-State plays a pair of matches next Saturday, March 16, in Monroe, La. The Red Wolves meet ULM in a Sun Belt Conference match at 10:00 a.m. and play their non-conference finale against Jackson State at 3:00 p.m. in Monroe, La.
