JONESBORO, Ark. (4/20/24) – Celebrating senior day, the Arkansas State women's tennis team earned a 4-1 victory over Southern Miss to close out the regular season.
A-State (8-14, 2-9 Sun Belt) took the early advantage by winning the doubles point and clinched the match winning three of the first four singles matches. The senior duo of Nejla Zukic and Rebecca Brody cruised to a 6-0 win on court three and the Red Wolves took the point with Abigail Thurmer and Anna Grigoreva winning 6-3 on court two. Yasmine Humbert and Sarah Millard were deadlocked 5-5 on court one when the point was clinched.
Humbert gave A-State a 2-0 lead cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 win on court two against Hannah Chambers. Southern Miss (4-14, 0-10 Sun Belt) got on the board with Malannia Vashkevich topping Brody 6-4, 6-1 on court six. Millard put A-State on top 3-1 following a 7-6 (4), 6-2 over Suhana Sofia on court three. Playing at No. 1 singles for the first this season, Grigoreva clinched the match with a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win over Alyssa Richter. Zukic faced a 6-2, 5-3 deficit on court four and Ariadna Fernandez was tied 6-4, 2-6 on court five when the match was clinched.
