JONESBORO, Ark. (7/15/24) – Arkansas State track and field was once again honored for academic success both in competition and in the classroom on Monday by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Both the men's and women's squads earned All-Academic Team acclaim with cumulative GPAs of 3.0 or better, along with eight student athletes garnering All-Academic Individual honors.
The Red Wolves were one of five Sun Belt Conference programs to boast both men's and women's squads on the lists.
In order to qualify, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, while student-athletes must hold a GPA of at least 3.25 and finish inside the top 96 in any championship individual event, indoors and outdoors combined.
A-State's women's program compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.40 while the men owned a mark of 3.03. Individually, eight athletes – five men and three women – received All-Academic praise.
For the men, NCAA Indoor Silver Medalist
Bradley Jelmert earned a spot on the list for the fourth year in a row, while
Hannes Fahl earned the honor for the second straight year.
Willem Coertzen and
Colby Eddowes were also honored, in addition to freshman
Josh Jones.
On the women's side, NCAA Outdoor Championships competitor and honorable mention All-American performer
Selase Sampram led the way, while Izzy Daines and
Miranda Burgett also received recognition.
