ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (9/21/24) – The Arkansas State men's golf team finished 10th among 17 teams at the William H. Tucker Invitational played at the University of New Mexico Championship Course.
Scoring was high in the final round and the Red Wolves finished 24-over par 312 Saturday to total 22-over par 887 to place 10th. After the course average hovered around 73 Friday, players produced an average score of 76 on Saturday.
Colorado was the lone team under par in the final round and came away with the team title at 12-under par, one stroke better than host New Mexico. Long Beach State (-3), UNLV (+2), Grand Canyon (+2), San Diego State (+12), Santa Clara (+13), New Mexico State (+14) and Loyola Marymount +19) rounded out the teams ahead of A-State. The Red Wolves earned victories over USC (+23), San Francisco (+25), Stetson (+26), UTEP (+29), Fresno State (+32), Oral Roberts (+47) and Eastern Michigan (+61).
Jake Lile paced A-State on the day at 3-over par 75 to finish up the weekend at 4-over par 220 and a tie for 26th. Thomas Schmidt, Jack Maxey and Milan Reed were 7-over par 79 in the final round while Jake Wallis was 10-over 82. Schmidt joined Lile in a tie for 26th while Wallis tied for 39th at 6-over par. Maxey finished tied for 71st and Reed was 89th.
A-State hosts the annual Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at RidgePointe Country Club in Jonesboro.
