JONESBORO, Ark. (9/30/24) – Led by individual leader Thomas Schmidt, the Arkansas State men's golf team has seven players in the top 20 and leads the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate after 36 holes at RidgePointe Country Club.
Schmidt used a second round 7-under par 65 to climb to the individual lead, two shots better than Patton Samuels of Austin Peay. Schmidt opened with a 5-under par 67 to total 12-under par 132 after 36 holes, tied for the second-lowest 36-hole total in program history. Playing as individuals, Chris Somerfield (-9) is tied for third while Milan Reed (-8) is tied for fifth (67-69). Jake Lile is tied for eighth at 7-under par 137 (69-68), Jake Wallis is tied for 10th at 6-under par 138 (71-67), Jack Maxey (71-70) and Pierce Johnson (70-71) are tied for 18th at 3-under par 141 (71-70) and Cole Kirby is tied for 31st at even-par 144 (75-69).
A-State totaled 28-under par 548, tied for the fourth-lowest 36-hole total in program history. After an 11-under par 277 in the first round, the Red Wolves were six strokes better in the second round at 17-under par 271, tied for the fourth-lowest round in program history. A-State leads Austin Peay (-17) and Texas State (-17) by 11 while Oklahoma Christian (-16) and Jacksonville State (-15) round out the top five.
