A-State Track & Field Returns to Action Friday and Saturday at Vanderbilt

JONESBORO, Ark. (1/16/25) – Arkansas State track and field is back from the holiday break, returning to action Friday and Saturday at the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville, Tenn.

Competition inside the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility begins at 9 a.m. with the pentathlon and heptathlon, with men's pole vault beginning at 11 a.m. The first event on the track is set for 5:30 p.m. with the women's 5000m. On Saturday, the heptathlon continues at 8:30 a.m. with the men's shot put at 10 a.m. The 60 meters qualifying round is slated for a 11:15 a.m. start.

THREE THINGS TO NOTE:

1.     EARLY-SEASON AWARDS SWEEP: Arkansas State swept the first men's Sun Belt Conference Athletes of the Week honors of the season on Dec. 11. Jacob Pyeatt was named the Men's Track Athlete of the Week while Bradley Jelmert secured Men's Field Athlete of the Week laurels.

2.     EARLY SUN BELT LEADERS: Arkansas State boasts a plethora of athletes atop their respective events in the Sun Belt Conference, with the full list below:

3.     SPARKLING DEBUTS: Several newcomers made big splashes in their A-State debuts at the Crimson and Gold Invitational back in December. Kiara Strayhorn moved to seventh all-time in the 60-meter hurdles (8.56) while Reneisha Andrews ran 7.41 in the 60 meters to rank fifth in her first indoor meet as a Red Wolf after competing in the outdoor season. Sammy Mason clocked a 3000-meter time of 9:41.90 up at Boston University's season opener meet. On the men's side, Malik Hall ran a 6.82 to tie for seventh in the 60 meters, and Evan Stevens finished the 3000 in 8:16.72 in Boston to rank sixth all-time. Kamil Przybyla ran the mile, finishing in 4:10.35 to rank seventh in the event.

After the Vanderbilt Invitational, A-State continues its indoor slate Jan. 24-25 at the Fighting Illini Challenge in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois.
