NEW CASTLE, Del. (1/19/25) – The fifth-ranked Arkansas State women's bowling team rallied past second-ranked Jacksonville State to finish third among 38 teams at the Northeast Classic.
A-State (49-16) entered the day fifth and defeated No. 10 North Carolina A&T (4-1), No. 6 Stephen F. Austin (4-1) and No. 2 Jacksonville State (4-2) to end the Northeast Classic with an 11-2 head-to-head record.
North Carolina A&T took the first game of the day 183-177, but A-State won the next four in commanding fashion to seal the win. The Red Wolves took game two 235-182 and followed with a 209-195 advantage in game three. A 231-199 advantage in game four gave A-State a 3-1 lead and the Red Wolves closed it out with a 220-177 tally in game five.
A-State met No. 6 Stephen F. Austin in its next match and came away victorious by a score of 4-1. The Red Wolves took game one, 213-181, and a two-pin advantage in game two, 190-188, made it 2-0. A-State earned a decisive 215-183 edge in game three to lead 3-0, but Stephen F. Austin forced another game with a 180-150 margin in game four. A-State clinched the match with a 204-188 set in game five.
Jacksonville State grabbed a 2-0 lead with wins of 247-204 and 229-223, but A-State used a 214-213 triumph in game three to come-from-behind for the win. After the one-pin win in game three, the Red Wolves took the next three games, 203-194, 211-196 and 193-149, to seal the win.
A-State returns to action Friday with the first day of the Prairie View Invitational in Arlington, Texas. The Red Wolves host their annual Mid-Winter Invitational Feb. 14-16 at Hijinx Family Entertainment Center in Jonesboro.
