LINCOLN, Neb. (2/21/26) –
Maggie Thoma bowled a perfect 300 against Sam Houston and the third-ranked Arkansas State women's bowling team was 5-0 against five top 15 opponents Saturday at the Big Red Invitational hosted by Nebraska.
A-State (61-27) rolled 5,410 pins over its five traditional matches Saturday to climb to fifth in the overall pinfall with 10,073 pins for an average of 201.5. Jacksonville State maintained the top spot with total pinfall of 10,747 (214.9) and is followed by Nebraska (10,451), Wichita State (10,215) and Maryville (10,103) in the top four. Sam Houston (9,945), Vanderbilt (9,931), Youngstown State (9,847), Louisiana Tech (9,845), McKendree (9,613), Quincy (8,819) and Western Illinois (8,661) round out the 12-team field.
The Red Wolves opened the day with a 10-pin advantage over No. 5 Louisiana Tech 1,006-996. A-State followed with a 1,092-1,060 margin over No. 14 Sam Houston and moved to 3-0 with a 998-896 triumph against No. 2 Vanderbilt. Following a 983-911 win against No. 8 Youngstown State, the Red Wolves closed out the day with a 1,061-995 tally over No. 4 Wichita State.
Behind the perfect game against Sam Houston, Thoma paced the Red Wolves in the individual standings with a five-game total of 1,099 (219.8) to rank fifth in the field.
Amanda Lang (1,026) and
Karli VanDuinen (1,025) ranked 16th and 17th, respectively, and
Kaylee Back totaled 989 to rank 22nd in five games played.
Alex-Anne Auclair rolled four games with a total of 754 to rank 42nd and Kaitlyn Ruszczak had 247 in the finale against Wichita State.
A-State meets No. 7 Maryville in a traditional match Sunday morning ahead of two rounds of bracket play to determine the event winner.
