Jason Brooks, who's regarded one of the top sprinters in Arkansas State University history, will continue to serve as a volunteer assistant coach for the Red Wolves' track and field teams in the 2014-15 season.
Brooks, who presently is in his first year as an instructor in the studies program and a learning support services coordinator at A-State, joined the staff in the fall of 2007.
“I love coaching," said Brooks. "I can’t image any better place to be than Arkansas State. It means a lot to me to coach at the university I attended and having people there who believe in me.”
Brooks had a highly-productive athletics career at A-State, becoming a three-time NCAA qualifier in the 400-meter dash and was once a part of A-State’s 4x100-meter relay squad.
A native of Memphis, Tenn. native, Brooks currently holds the fourth-fastest outdoor time at A-State in the 400-meter dash with a 46.71 time and registered a time of 47.75 indoors, which ranks as the fifth-best time ever. Brooks also rewrote his own schedule record in 2007 with a 600-yard run time of 1:11.59. He presently is listed among A-State's all-time top 10 sprinters in both the indoor and outdoor 200-meter dashes. A versatile athlete, Brooks also competed occasionally in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles during his Red Wolves' career.
