Indians Fall 75-59 at Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. (11-16-2007) ? The Arkansas State men's basketball team (0-2) dropped its first road game of the season, falling 75-59 to Tulsa (2-1) at the Donald W. Reynolds Center in front of a crowd of 4,842.

 

After ASU and Tulsa traded buckets the first couple of minutes to begin the second half, Tulsa used its second 10-0 run of the night to take a commanding 53-31 lead with 12:24 remaining.  The Golden Hurricane went on to build its lead to as much as 23 points and while the Indians trimmed their deficit to 12 late in the game, they couldn't get any closer.

 

Tulsa controlled the boards, posting 43 rebounds to ASU's 27, and shot 49 percent from the floor in comparison to the Indians' 35 percent.  ASU finished the game with a season-high 13 steals, including a career-high five by Shawn Morgan, and posted 12 assists.

 

The Indians had three players score in double figures, including Ryan Wedel with a game-high 16 points.  Adrian Banks added 11 points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.  Morgan scored 10 points and also grabbed five rebounds.

 

Tulsa was led by Jerome Jordan and Glenn Andrews with 14 points each, and Calvin Hill led the Golden Hurricane's efforts on the boards with a game-high 15 rebounds.

 

Tulsa used its other 10-0 run midway through the first half to turn a one-possession game into a 25-14 lead with 7:28 remaining before the break.  ASU cut its deficit to seven points, 27-20, with 2:32 remaining in the first half, but the Golden Hurricane stretched it back to double figures at 32-22 going into the intermission period.

 

The Golden Hurricane held a 22-9 advantage on the boards in the first half, made 13-of-15 free throws and shot 42 percent from the field to build its 10-point halftime lead.  While the Indians' recorded eight steals in the first half and forced Tulsa into 16 turnovers to help keep the game close, they connected on just 30 percent of their field goal attempts and were 4-of-7 at the charity stripe.

 

ASU remains on the road for its next game, facing No. 3 Memphis at FedExForum Nov. 20 at 7:00 p.m.
