Three ASU Football Players Named Rivals.com All-Sun Belt

JONESBORO (12/7/07) ? Arkansas State senior football players Tyrell Johnson, Koby McKinnon and Matt Reibe have all been named to the Rivals.com 2007 All-Sun Belt Conference Team that consists of one team made up of 26 players from around the league.

 

Johnson (Rison, Ark.), recently named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year, finished his career as the SBC's all-time leader in tackles with 363 total stops.  He recorded 94 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, a career-high six interceptions for 142 yards and a touchdown, four pass break-ups and two forced fumbles in 2007.  He broke the Sun Belt record for career interception return yards with 309 and finished as the Sun Belt's third all-time leader in interceptions with 13.  He ranks seventh in the Sun Belt in tackles (7.8 per game), third in interceptions (0.5 per game) and sixth for passes defended (0.83 per game).  He is the only player in the Sun Belt ranked among the top 10 players for tackles, interceptions and passes defended.  He recorded a season-high 14 tackles against Texas, posted double-figure tackles three times and had at least seven stops in eight games.  He is ranked tied for 10th in the nation in interceptions.

 

McKinnon (Junction City, Ark.) was also among the 2007 All-Sun Belt Conference selections announced by the league office Wednesday.  He recorded a career-high 101 tackles in 2007 to rank third in the Sun Belt Conference with an average of 8.4 tackles per game.  A 2006 All-Sun Belt selection, McKinnon also had a team-high seven tackles for loss of 25 yards, added a sack, posted two interceptions for 51 yards and had four pass break-ups.  He posted a career-high 12 tackles against Middle Tennessee and reached double-figure tackles in a game four times this season.  The Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference selection finished his career as the Sun Belt's No. 2 all-time leader in interception return yards with 236.

 

Reibe (El Dorado, Ark.) started every game on the offensive line for ASU in 2007 and the last 24 games of his career dating back to last season.  Reibe was one of 67 Division I-A semifinalists for the 2007 Draddy Trophy, which recognizes an individual as the absolute best in the country for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary community leadership.  He helped ASU post the second most yards of total offense in school history and helped lead the way for ASU's rushing attack that ranks 37th in the nation.  Reibe was named Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Athlons' and Phil Steele's football publications.
