JONESBORO, Ark., (3-28-2007) - Former Lady Indian basketball players
Adrianne Davie and
Rudy Sims have been invited to the WNBA's Pre-Draft Camp at Cleveland State University, March 30-31.
The camp offers coaches and general managers from all 13 WNBA teams an opportunity to evaluate the top young players from around the world in advance of the 2007 WNBA Draft presented by adidas, set to take place in Cleveland April 4. The prospects will showcase their skills and compete against one another in drills, half court scenarios and full court scrimmages during three on-court sessions.
“This is a huge honor for these two players,” said ASU head coach
Brian Boyer. “This is something that every young person dreams of, and due to their hard work and commitment, this is a huge opportunity that has come their way.”
Davie and Sims recently finished their careers at Arkansas State, leading the 2006-07 Lady Indians to the second round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament. Both players set numerous records during their four-year careers, and led the Lady Indians to post-season play in three of their four years at ASU.
“Certainly this is huge for our program and huge for our athletic department,” added Boyer, “And I think this speaks volumes for the university itself. Across the campus, any student that can compete at a national level against any other university in the country is something that we can be proud of, and here we are at Arkansas State with not one, but two ladies that that have competed against the best across the nation.”
Davie, a four-time All-Sun Belt Conference performer, finished as the ASU career rebounding and shot-blocking leader, grabbing 1,147 rebounds and blocking 132 shots during her career. She also became the third leading scorer in ASU history during the 2006-07 season, and finished her career with 1,978 points.
“This is one of my biggest achievements during my career at ASU,” said Davie, “and I look forward to going to the camp and seeing how I measure up against some of the best players from across the country.”
Sims was a three-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection, and finished her career at ASU as the all-time leader in assists with 548, and the fourth leading scorer all-time, with 1,664 points. She is the only player in Lady Indian history to record over 1,000 points and 500 assists in a career.
“This is a great opportunity and a great accomplishment for me to be recognized,” said Sims. “I have been working out, and I am ready for the challenge.”
