Late ASU Rally Falls Short As Red Wolves Drop Home Contest To Indiana State

JONESBORO, Ark. (11/29/09) – A three-pointer by sophomore guard Daniel Bryant with 33-seconds remaining in the game moved the Arkansas State basketball team (3-2) to within three-points of Indiana State (5-2), 72-75, but they were unable to capture the game, as the Sycamores hit two free-throws to seal the game at 77-72 Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center.

The Red Wolves put on the full court press but were unable to get the ball forcing Bryant to foul ISU's Rashad Reed. Reed connected on a pair of free-throws to give the Sycamores their final five point lead.

A free-throw by sophomore forward Martavius Adams at the 5:04 mark of the second half sparked a 12-3 run which was capped by Bryant's three-pointer to finish the game off for the Red Wolves.

“I was proud of our team the way we came back and kept trying to play, we did lot of good things down the stretch to have an opportunity to possibly win the game,” said ASU head coach John Brady. “The two things that I need to correct and get our team to do better – we didn't defend well at home…and we shot 29 free throws and made 15.”

ASU led early in the game taking a seven point lead, which was its largest of the game for the Red Wolves, when freshman guard Brandon Reed hit a three-pointer at the 16:54 mark of the first half. The Sycamores chipped away at the ASU lead throughout the first half, taking over a lead it would never relinquish at the 1:10 mark of the first half on a layup by Dwayne Lathan.

A pair of free throws by Carl Richard in the final minute of the half put the Sycamores up by four at the break, 37-33.

ASU forced Indiana State into 19 turnovers while committing just six turnovers, a season low. The Red Wolves converted those turnovers into 27 points.

For the second straight game, Bryant recorded a career-high in scoring. Bryant led all players with 23 points, while Reed and Rashad Alison added 11 each for ASU to round out the players in double-figure scoring for the Red Wolves.

Allison along with freshman guard Trey Finn led the team with five rebounds each.

The Red Wolves were outrebounded for just the second time this season, pulling down 29 while Indiana State had 42 boards.

The Red Wolves return to action against Ole Miss Wednesday at the Convocation Center. Tipoff  against the Rebels is set for 7:05 p.m. Wednesday.
