ASU Basketball Falls At Home To Ole Miss

JONESBORO, Ark. (12/2/09) – Junior guard Rashad Allison led the Red Wolves basketball team (3-3) with nine points in a 79-57 loss to Ole Miss (6-1) Wednesday night at the Convocation Center.

Ole Miss had three players score in double figured led by preseason all-SEC selection Terrico White with 19 pts with Zach Gram adding 17 and Chris Warren adding 13.

“They (Ole Miss) do a lot of things real easy, to stop that kind of team, you have to match them athletically or you have to be extremely patient offensively and we can't quite match them offensively and we were way too impatient in the first half offensively,” said ASU head coach John Brady. “I don't take it as anything than we have some young guys who are trying to do well and some new guys who are trying to do well and they think that doing it well is doing it quickly, and that's not the case.”

The game's first few minutes saw the lead change four times with ASU taking a one point lead twice. Ole Miss then went on a 12-0 run and never looked back, leading by as many as 30 in the second half.

Sophomore forward Martavius Adams, freshman guard Trey Finn and sophomore guard Daniel Bryant each added eight points for the Red Wolves.

Finn and Brandon Peterson led the team with six rebounds each, while Peterson had his fifth multiple block game of the season with two against the Rebels.

ASU shot 33 percent from the floor (18-54) while giving up a 46.7% to Ole Miss (28-60).

Ole Miss outrebounded the Red Wolves 45-30, but ASU was able to hang with the Rebels in the paint scoring 22 to 26 by Ole Miss.

ASU trailed 24-43 at the break but was only outscored 33-36 in the second half.

“I thought the second half we got more aggressive offensively, we got the ball inside and I think we tried to make some baskets at the rim. But it's like the other games we have left too many points on the table, particularly around the goal tonight.”

ASU returns to action against Memphis on Saturday. The Red Wolves will tipoff against the Tigers at 7 p.m. at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tenn.
