ASU Has Six Score Double-Digits En Route To 98-60 Win Over Central Baptist

JONESBORO, Ark. (12/29/09) – Six double-digit scoring performances and a double-double from sophomore Trey Finn gave Arkansas State (6-5, 1-0) the advantage in the Red Wolves' 98-60 victory over Central Baptist (9-7) Tuesday night at the ASU Convocation Center.

Finn recorded 13 points and 13 rebounds, career-highs in both categories while freshman guard Brandon Reed led the team with 14 points. The 98 points was the highest amount scored by the Red Wolves this season.

The win was the 300th career victory for ASU head coach John Brady.

“I think it was a game we needed to play after coming back from the break and it was a game we should have won and did win,” said ASU head coach John Brady. “Outside the last minute thought our team did fine and I was pleased with the way they played. We started well, we shot the ball really well, we defended good enough, we rebounded pretty good and we ran the floor. I have been emphasizing to our post men to run the floor and I thought we got some good post run outs, once we secured the rebounds we were able to beat them down the floor and get some layups.”

Junior forward Jeremy Thomas and freshman forward Brandon Peterson each put up 13 for the Red Wolves while freshman guard Adam Sterrenberg had 12 points.

Although only playing 12 minutes in the contest sophomore forward Martavius Adams scored the first eight for ASU en route to scoring 12 points with seven rebounds.

Allison recorded a career-high 11 assists and was just one point shy of a double-double with nine points.

The Red Wolves held Central Baptist without a field goal until the 13:41 mark when Michael Holder scored a layup make the score 15-4 in favor of ASU. Earlier, Holder drained a pair of free throws to break the shutout.

ASU shot over sixty percent from both the field (20-32) and three point range (7-11) to go up 53-29 in the first half. The Red Wolves finished the contest shooting 56.3% from the field (36-64) and 42.9% from three (9-21). ASU was perfect from the line in the first half (6-6) going 17-23 for 73.9% in the contest.

ASU dominated the undersized Mustangs down low outscoring CBC 48-28 in the paint and outrebounding the opponent 51-26.

The Red Wolves never trailed in the contest and led by 45 after JeJuan Brown hit a pair of free throws at the 3:57 mark of the second half.

Ryan Barnes scored 16 points for Central Baptist to lead the team in the category.
