Brown Scores Career High 17 Points As Red Wolves Drop Road Contest At Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (12/5/09) – Arkansas State's JeJuan Brown scored a career-high 17 points to lead the Red Wolves (3-4) in a 74-55 loss at Memphis (5-1), Saturday at the FedEx Forum.

The Red Wolves led for the first 34-minutes and 38-seconds of the game. Elliot Williams made a layup to give the tigers a 40-39 lead. Memphis stretched the lead to the final 22-point advantage.

“I think we played well for the first 34 minutes,” said ASU head coach John Brady. “I thought we played well in the first half, I thought we defended well. I thought we battled, it's too bad. In games like this, when you have teams as athletic and as quick as this team is, the game gets too long, and I think the game was a little long for us. I think our team got better tonight.”

ASU held Memphis to shooting just 39.1-percent from the field (27-69) and a lowly 7.7% from three point range in the contest (1-13).

Sophomore forward Martavius Adams recorded his first career double-double for ASU when he pulled down a rebound at the 19:23 mark of the second half. Adams finished the game with 11 points, all of which came in the first frame, and a career-best 12 rebounds.

“I thought he (Adams) played one of his most aggressive games, rebounding the ball especially. I was proud of him for doing that. Hopefully he can build on that and do better,” said Brady.

Freshman guard Brandon Reed rounded out the three ASU players scoring in double digits, scoring 14 in the contest.

Brown and freshman Brandon Peterson each picked up two blocks for ASU, it was the sixth multiple block game on the season for Peterson. Peterson also had five points and five rebounds.

Arkansas State never trailed in the first half against the Tigers, jumping out to a 13 point lead on a three-pointer by Brown at the 9:53 mark and led 32-28 at the half.

ASU began the game on a 13-4 run, which was capped by a Brown layup at 14:30 in the first half. Adams scored the first six points in the contest for the Red Wolves.

The Red Wolves held Memphis to just 22.9% shooting in the first half (8-35) and allowed no baskets from beyond the three-point arc (0-6).

Adams led all players at the break, nearly posting his double-double in the first half alone, with 11 points and nine first half rebounds.

ASU returns to action on Dec. 12 when they host Missouri State at the Convocation Center. Tipoff against the Bears is set for 7:05 p.m.
