ASU Basketball Captures Road Win At North Texas; Wins Third Straight

DENTON, Texas. (1/16/10) –  The Arkansas State men's basketball team won its third straight contest in convincing fashion capturing a 83-70 victory at North Texas Saturday. The win was the fourth-straight conference win for ASU which improved to 10-7 with a 5-1 record in conference action.

The Red Wolves put on a season-best performance shooting the ball going 32-54 for 59.3% in the contest including shooting 65.2% (15-23) in the second half alone.

“I think our team is getting better, we had two big road wins. I thought we played hard tonight and North Texas played hard and it was a physical game,” said ASU head coach John Brady. “I hope our team continues to get better and has the attitude of coming to work every day. Our execution is getting better and we are getting more confident in what we have to do to win games.”

Freshman guard Brandon Reed led four ASU players scoring in double-digits with 18, followed by junior forward Jeremy Thomas who had 16 and led ASU along with Martavius Adams with eight rebounds.

Sophomore guard Daniel Bryant hit back-to-back three-pointers in his first minute in the game, playing for the first time since ASU played Denver on Dec. 31. Bryant finished the game with 13 points going 3-3 from three-point range and 4-5 from the floor.

Adams added 12 points, rounding out the ASU players in double-figures.

A three-pointer by Reed at the 9:37 mark of the first half put ASU up 17-16, a lead the Red Wolves would never relinquish.

The three-pointer by Reed was part of a 14-2 run which ASU used to capture the lead. Reed hit a free throw at 4:57 and Thomas hit a jumper at 3:45 to give the Red Wolves 12 point leads, their largest of the first half.

North Texas battled back to cut ASU's lead to six at the half, 38-32.

ASU maintained the lead through the second half stretching it to 19 when junior Rashad Allison hit a jumper n the paint at the 1:25 mark to put the Red Wolves up 81-62.

The Red Wolves outrebounded the Mean Green 31-30 and outscored them in the paint 40-32.

George Odufuwa recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead north Texas. He also led them in assists with four and had two steals.

ASU continues its road swing with a trip to the conference schools in Florida. The Red Wolves play Florida International at 7 p.m. (CST) Thursday and Florida Atlantic at 6 p.m. (CST) on Saturday.
