ASU Dominates The Boards And Picks Up First League Road Win At UALR

LITTLE ROCK (1/29/11) – The Arkansas State men's basketball team never trailed and outrebounded UALR 41-23 to pick up its first Sun Belt Conference road win with a 75-64 decision at the Jack Stephens Center Saturday.

ASU got back to .500 moving to 12-12 with a 6-4 SBC record. UALR fell to 12-11 with a 4-4 league mark.

ASU had two guards lead them in double-digit scoring led by seniors Donald Boone and Rashad Allison with 22 and 19 points, respectively. Allison also had five assists and six rebounds while Boone had three boards and two steals.

Allison was also 6-7 from the field and 7-8 from the free throw line.

Junior forward Martavius Adams had 10 rebounds while scoring four points in the second half for ASU.

Solomon Bozeman led UALR with 18 points while D'Andre Williams and Alex Garcia Mendoza also scored double-figures for UALR with 11 and 10 points each.

ASU shot 26-48 from the field including going 14-23 during the second half and were 7-15 from three-point range. The Red Wolves also converted their chances from the charity stripe hitting 16-20 from the free-throw line.

ASU opened the game on an 11-0 run led by Boone who had seven points during the opening stretch.

UALR answered with a 9-2 run of its own to cut the ASU lead to 13-9 when Derrick Bails hit a jumper with 10:48 remaining in the half.

The Red Wolves then opened the score up to take its largest lead of the game, 18, when Adam Sterrenberg hit a three-pointer with 3:48 remaining in the half.

The Trojans chipped away at the score, mostly from the free-throw line, to cut the ASU lead down to eight points at the break, 30-22.

During the second-half ASU maintained a double-digit lead through most of the game, while UALR slowed the pace in the final minutes, fouling the Red Wolves to try to shrink the margin.

ASU outscored UALR in the paint 26-22 and picked up 15 second chance points to the Trojans 9.

The Red Wolves play their final nonconference matchup at Savannah State on Tuesday.
