SIU Edwardsville Rallies To Take Down Red Wolves 6-5

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (3/30/11) – SIU-Edwardsville rallied from a 5-2 deficit, scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh to capture game two of the midweek series, 6-5 at the SimmonsCooper Complex Wednesday.

ASU fell to 12-15 while SIU-Edwardsville picked up its seventh win of the season improving to 7-15. SIUE won the first game of the series, 2-1 on Tuesday.

Michael Faulkner scored on a Todd Baumgartner ground out to give the Red Wolves a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

ASU moved its lead to 2-0 when Tyler Smith singled down the left field line to drive in Baumgartner.

The Red Wolves then used a three-run fifth inning to take a 5-1 advantage. Dustin Jones doubled down the right field line and Faulkner reached on a throwing error by SIUE pitcher Josh Malin. Emery then singled through the left side scoring Faulkner and Jones. Logan Uxa then singled to second base to drive in Baumgartner.

The Cougars then scored one run in the bottom of the fifth when James Vazques doubled-home Travis Becherer.

SIU-Edwardsville then took the lead with its four-run seventh to put ASU down 6-5 on RBI hits by Vazquez, Matecki, Caldwell and Hawkins.

Brandon Milhouse made his first appearance on the hill for the Red Wolves picking up the loss while Travis Felax took the win for the Cougars.

Emery led ASU with two RBI while Faulkner and Baumgartner had two runs scored.

ASU returns home for a weekend Sun Belt series against Troy this weekend. First pitch Friday is set for 6 p.m.
