ASU Takes ULM To 10, Falls on Two-Out Walk Off Single

MONROE, La. (4/9/11) – ULM's Joey Rapp hit a two-out single to left field in the 10th inning to take an 8-7 win for the Warhawks over the Arkansas State baseball team Saturday night at Warhawk Field.

The loss evened the series at 1-1 with ASU falling to 13-20 with a 3-8 Sun Belt Conference mark while ULM improved to 17-12 with a 5-6 SBC mark.

“We fought back and took the lead, proud of our guys for doing that, we just couldn't hold them,” said ASU head coach Tommy Raffo.

ULM took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Caleb Clowers singled-home Jeremy Sy.

ASU answered back in the third inning when they scored three runs on four hits. Michael Faulkner drove in Zack George to tie the game at 1-1. Zack Maggio then singled-in Faulkner to give the Red Wolves its first lead of the game. Maggio then scored on a wild pitch to cap off the inning.

ULM retook the lead in the fourth, scoring four runs on four hits before ASU got back on top 6-5 with a three-run fifth. Baumgartner drove in Faulkner on a sacrifice fly that had singled to lead off the inning. Castaldo then plated Maggio and on a double to left-center. Logan Uxa then singled through the left side to bring in Castaldo.

ULM got back on top when Clowers hit a two-out two-RBI single in the eighth inning to move the score to 7-6 in favor of the Warhawks.

ASU tied the game in the ninth when Emery singled-home Faulkner in the ninth and the Red Wolves defense was solid in the bottom of the frame to force the 10th inning.

Maggio led ASU at the plate going 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Baumgartner and Faulkner each went 2-4 with an RBI while Faulkner had three runs scored.

Baumgartner faced three pitchers in relief but took his second loss of the season moving to 0-2 for the Red Wolves. Luke Briley improved to 3-2 pitching 2.2 innings in relief for the Warhawks.

Brad Wallace pitched solidly in relief for ASU going 2.2 innings with four strikeouts and allowing two runs on three hits.

ASU and ULM complete the three-game set on Sunday with a 1 p.m. first pitch at Warhawk Field.
