JONESBORO, Ark. (1/25/13) – The
Arkansas State men's and women's indoor track and field teams collected eight
first-place finishes at the ASU Invitational held Friday at the Convocation
Center.
Junior Chris Nicasio set the meet
record in men's weight throw with a weight throw of 19.57 meters, breaking the
old record of 19.36 meters.
Junior Sharika Nelvis had another
successful meet as she took home the women's 55-meter hurdles title with a time
of 7.79 and won with a time of 24.53 in the women's 200-meter dash.
Junior Julia Agawu also faired
very well on the day. She won the
women's weight throw with a throw of 62-06.50 and finished third in the women's
shot put with a throw of 43-07.25.
Senior Kim Ludick also placed fourth in the women's shot put with a
throw of 42-11.50.
In the other women's events, freshman
Emenderlyn Iwuji finished in fourth with a time of 8.05 in 55-meter hurdles. Iwuji also finished second in the women's long
jump with a jump of 18-06.00 and finished second in the women's triple jump as
well with a jump of 38-00.25.
In the women's 3000 meter A-State
runners took first, second, and fourth. Junior
Kristina Aubert won with a time of 9:55.51 while senior Samantha Salinas
finished second with a time of 10:16.92 and sophomore Rexi Parcells finished
fourth with a time of 10:21.33.
ASU placed first and fourth in the
women's distance medley. The team of
Parcells, Macey Rodely, Heather Hammett, and Aubert won with a time of
12:26.35. The team of Abbey Dixon,
Alexandra Pevtsova, Bailey Sisson, and Salinas finished fourth with a time of
12:54.05.
In the women's pole fault, A-State
had two top-5 finishers. Pevtsova
finished in second place with a height of 12-05.50 and freshman Taylor Swanson
finished fifth with a height of 11-05.75.
In the women's one mile run sophomore
Tilda Helgesson finished fourth with a time of 5:17.18.
In the women's 4x400 relay ASU's
team of Alecia Dodds, Kelsey Bean, Jessica Maggio, and Charlotte Williams
placed fifth with a time of 4:05.02.
Lakeitha Minter finished in a tie
for fifth place in the women's high jump with 5-03.00.
In the rest of the men's events,
senior Solomon Williams won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.54 while senior
Lucas Bateman finished in fifth place with a 7.69.
ASU was able to take first and
second place in the 200-meter dash. Junior
Joey Meyer won with a time of 21.69 and junior Justin Whitfield was right
behind him with a time of 22.06.
In the men's one mile run freshman
Lance Beckman finished third with a time of 4:27.83.
In the men's high jump junior Kashef
Daniel finished third with a jump of 6-10.75.
Junior Ethan Sandusky finished
third in the men's pole vault with a 15-07.75.aced fifth with a time of
4:05.02.
The Red Wolves' team of Joseph
Meyer, Lucas Bateman, Billy Ellis, and Richard Williams finished fourth in the
men's 4x400 relay race with a time of 3:24.21.
In the men's shot put junior Tyler
Lingo finished fifth with a toss of 50-06.25.
The Red Wolves will split up and return to action Feb 1-2. One group will head to Carbondale, Illinois
for the Southern Illinois Invite and the other group will travel to Lincoln,
Nebraska for the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.
