MIAMI LAKES, Fla. (2/26/13) - The Arkansas State women's golf team posted a final-round 320 Tuesday at the Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge, completing the two-day tournament at Shula's Golf Club with a combined 967 to finish in 16th place.
The Red Wolves' 320 was their best score of the tournament after recording a 322 and 325 in yesterday's first and second rounds, respectively. Although three A-State players posted their lowest individual score in the third round, A-State remained locked in 16th place with a combined 967.
ASU ended the tournament, which featured six teams ranked among the top 60 in the country, four strokes behind 15th-place Illinois State, while No. 20 North Carolina State claimed the championship with an 874. Florida International finished second with an 886 and Miami collected a third-place finish with an 895.
The Red Wolves were led by freshman Abi Laker, who jumped from 66th place to tied for 57th in the final standings with a 75 today that was the lowest single-round score by an ASU golfer. Laker completed the tournament with a combined 236 after shooting an 80 and 81 Monday.
Despite posting her best round today as well, senior Anna Carling dropped two places in the standings to tied for 60th place. Carling actually improved her score each round with an 80-79-78 to give her a total 237. Sophomore Marie Couffignal jumped from tied for 77th place to tied for 75th with a final-round 81, her best performance of the tournament after carding an 82 for each of the first two rounds.
Also competing for A-State, senior Jennifer Loiacano finished 83rd with a 249 (80-83-86) and junior Clara Tefteller was tied for 88th place with a 262 (87-87-88). Competing as an individual, junior Courtney Manning finished tied for 69th place with a 241 (83-79-79).
ASU returns to action March 11-12 at the Jackrabbit Invitational, hosted by South Dakota State in Primm, Nev.
