QUICK HITS

Louisiana-Lafayette shot 64 percent (14-22) from beyond the arc and 55 percent (32-58) from the field to defeat A-State 96-59 on Thursday.

PJ Hardwick had a career high 17 points on 7-17 shooting and was the only A-State player to score in double figures. Cameron Golden scored eight points while Nouhoum Bocoum had eight points and Kelvin Downs scored six points off the bench.

The Red Wolves play 11 games in the month of January, the most since A-State had 11 games in the 1986-87 season.

The 2014-15 campaign represents the program's 87th season as the Red Wolves have presently amassed a 1,150-1,087 all-time record (.514 win pct.) dating back their inaugural 1926-27 season. A-State has won at least 20 games in a season five times – 1986-87 (21-13), 1987-88 (21-14), 1988-89 (20-10), 1990-91 (23-9) and 1997-98 (20-9) since joining the NCAA-I ranks in 1970-71.

A-State has amassed a record of 199-196 (.504) since joining the Sun Belt Conference in the 1991-92 season. A-State is now 129-66 (.662) in home SBC games while the road record sits at 70-129 (.352).

The Red Wolves are 8-1 on the season when pulling down 35-plus rebounds. A-State is 7-3 when attempting fewer three-pointers in the second half compared to the first half and 7-2 when shooting a better field goal percentage than their opposition.

Saturday's matchup with Troy presents A-State with its sixth opponent and seventh game against a foe riding a losing streak of two or more games. The Red Wolves are 2-4 in the previous six occurences.

A-STATE/TROY SERIES HISTORY

Arkansas State and Troy resume a Sun Belt Conference series that dates back to the 2005-06 season with the Trojans leading 7-6 on the ledger. A-State has won five of the last seven meetings after Troy earned wins in five out of the first six.

The Red Wolves are 2-3 all-time in games played at Troy, earning an 83-73 victory last season at Trojan Arena. All five previous meetings at Troy have been decided by 10 or fewer points, including on overtime game (1/24/13).

Last season, A-State and Troy split the season series with the road team picking up the win. A-State defeated the Trojans 83-73 on Feb. 14 at Troy, but the Trojans defeated the Red Wolves 98-84 at the Convocation Center.

Rakeem Dickerson and Ed Townsel both scored 19 points to lead four A-State players in double figures as the Red Wolves defeated Troy 83-73 on Feb. 1 at Troy. Cameron Golden poured in 18 points off the bench and Melvin Johnson III added 10 points. A-State shot 43.6 percent (24-55) from the floor and 82.8 percent (24-29) at the free throw line. Troy made 46.6 percent (27-58) of its shots from the field and was 57.1 percent (12-21) in free throw efficiency.

Troy's Tevin Calhoun scored 35 points with seven three-pointers and the Trojans netted a Convocation Center record-tying 14 three-point field goals to hand A-State a 98-84 loss on Jan. 9. Kirk Van Slyke recorded double-figure scoring for a seventh-straight game at the time with 27 points, including 9-of-10 at the free throw stripe. Brandon Reed compiled a season-high 23 points by going 6-for-11 from the field along with eight free throws. Melvin Johnson III tossed in 17 points while six other A-State players combined for 17 points. Troy shot 57.6 percent (19-33) in the first half, including 60 percent (9-15) from beyond the arc. For the game, Troy shot 55.2 percent (32-58) and made 51.9 percent (14-27) from three-point range. A-State ended the evening shooting 49.1 percent (28-57), which included 33.3 percent (8-24) from long range.

LAST TIME OUT

Louisiana-Lafayette shot 64 percent (14-22) from beyond the arc and 55 percent (32-58) from the field to defeat A-State 96-59 on Thursday at the Cajundome.

PJ Hardwick scored a career-high 17 points, 11 of which came in the first half, on 41 percent (7-17) shooting from the field. Nouhoum Bocoum and Cameron Golden each added eight points for the Red Wolves.

ULL forward Shawn Long was 10-11 (91 percent) from the field, including a perfect 5-of-5 from three to lead all scorers with 27 points. Hayward Register added 19 points for the Ragin Cajuns in 14 points off the bench.

A-State shot 40 percent (12-30) from the field in the first half, but Louisiana-Lafayette shot 52 percent (16-31) and added 15 points from the free throw line to hold a 51-28 lead at the half. After Charles Waters opened the scoring for A-State, ULL went on a 13-2 run to lead the Red Wolves 13-4. A-State traded buckets with the Ragin' Cajuns, but ULL used a 10-0 run to take an 18-point lead by a score of 33-15.

The Ragin' Cajuns knocked down 10-of-11 (91 percent) of their three-point attempts in the second half to outscore A-State 45-31 for the period. Bocoum scored all eight of his points in the second half, including sinking his first career three-pointer. Bocoum was 3-for-3 at the charity stripe and pulled down four rebounds.

A-State finished the night shooting 38 percent (22-58) from the field, but just 21 percent (3-14) from beyond the arc. The Red Wolves earned 19 trips to the free throw line, but only hit 12 free throws to shoot 63 percent.

The Red Wolves were out-rebounded 41-29 in the game with the Ragin' Cajuns controlling the defensive glass 29-18. A-State was outscored in the paint 34-24 and ULL's bench held a 50-21 advantage over the Red Wolves.

SCOUTING TROY

Troy enters Saturday's matchup riding a two-game losing skid and the Trojans have lost seven of their last 10 games overall. Thursday, UALR defeated Troy 73-65 to drop Troy to 7-10 overall and 2-6 in league play.

Troy has two players averaging double figures and four more above seven points per game. The Trojans have limited their rotation to nine players in league play. Musa Abdul-Aleem paces the squad in scoring with an average of 15.9. Wesley Person averages 14.8 points and Kevin Thomas has an average of 7.2 rebounds per game while averaging 9.4 points.

The Trojans have shot 43 percent from the floor and 35 percent from three. In their eight conference games, Troy is shooting 41 percent from the floor and 37 percent from beyond the arc. Troy averages 9.9 assists per game, but has turned the ball over at a 14.6 clip thus far.

Phil Cunningham is in his second season at the helm of Troy. He's posted a record of 18-30 entering Saturday's game.

Troy is the sixth A-State opponent and presents the seventh game in which the Red Wolves face a foe riding a losing streak of two or more games. Appalachian State (2), South Alabama, ULM, UT Arlington and Louisiana-Lafayette all entered their matchup with A-State with losing streaks.

STAT TRENDS

A-State has is 8-1 this season when grabbing 35 or more rebounds. The lone loss was a 73-65 loss at Toledo.

The Red Wolves are 7-3 on the season when having fewer three-point attempts in the second half than in the first half. Further, in the 10 games in which A-State has fewer three-point attempts in the second half, the Red Wolves have outscored their opponents 340-303 in the second half alone. In the first half of those games, A-State has been outscored 354-293.

The Red Wolves are 7-3 when 25 or more of their points are inside the painted area. A-State is 7-3 this season when opponents score 30 or fewer points in the paint. Georgia State had 24 points in the paint, but A-State lost the matchup.

The Red Wolves are 5-1 this season when earning a trip to the free throw line more than their opponents.

A-State is 6-3 this season when Anthony Livingston sinks three or more free throws. The third loss came Monday when Livingston knocked down 13 of his 14 attempts from the charity stripe.

SUN BELT CONFERENCE GAMES

The Red Wolves are 199-196 (.504) since joining the Sun Belt Conference (SBC) in the 1991-92 season, which includes a season-best 14-4 (.778) mark in the 1997-98 campaign. A-State sports a 129-66 (.662) record at home and is 70-129 (.352) on the road in Sun Belt action.

A-State head coach John Brady has registered a 58-57 (.504) record in Sun Belt Conference contests since his arrival in the 2008-09 season, which consists of a 40-16 (.714) home ledger and a 18-41 (.305) away mark.

A-STATE IN JANUARY GAMES

The Red Wolves have started the new calendar year with an 2-6 mark and are in the midst of a tough January slate. Dating back to the 2010-11 season, the Red Wolves are 15-7 at home and 4-15 in January road games.

A-State has a total of 11 games this month, the most in the month of January since the 1986-87 season. The 1982-83 schedule had the most January games, with A-State going 8-5 in 13 games.

Since the 2000-01 season, the Red Wolves have a record of 63-61 (.508) in January outings. A-State is 43-21 (.672) at home and 20-40 (.333) on the road in that span of January contests. Under head coach John Brady, A-State is 31-28 (.525) in January games, 23-9 (.719) at home and 8-19 (.296) on the road.

BENCH PRODUCTION

The Red Wolves bench scored 21 points against Louisiana-Lafayette, just the 10 time in 18 games that the bench reached double figures. The 21-point bench performance at ULL is the most that A-State has scored this season and the second time to top 20 points (Belhaven).
