A-State Men's Cross Country Wins Rhodes Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (9/26/15) – Senior Wil Norris and freshman Rickus Jacobs of the Arkansas State University men's cross country squad finished first and second to help the Red Wolves take first place at the 25th-annual Rhodes Invitational at Shelby Farms Saturday.

The Red Wolves, who finished with an average time of 26:25.64, compiled 78 points with four individuals finishing inside the top-20 to better second place Rhodes (90 points). Norris took top honors with a time of 25:37.20 and Jacobs was on his heels with a time of 25:37.70. Freshman Zach Rail (26:44.30) and junior Zach VanGundy (26:45.80) finished 19th and 20th, respectively, to help the Red Wolves to the first place team finish.

On the women's side, Arkansas State finished fourth with a total time of 1:55:43.15 and 116 points. Memphis took the top spot with 75 points, while UT Martin was second with 78 points. Cornell finished ahead of the Red Wolves with 97 points.

Senior Abbey Dixon led the Red Wolves with a fourth-place finish and a time of 21:30.65. Sophomore Arnica Zitting joined Dixon in the top-10 with a sixth-place finish of 21:52.27. Junior Lindsey Mills (19th, 23:26.16) and freshman Kyandra Chandler (28th, 23:52.19) helped A-State have four runners finish in the top-30.

The Red Wolves return to action Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
