CARBONDALE, Ill. (2/4/17) – Several members of the Arkansas State track and field teams competed this weekend at the Don Denoon Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois University.
“We have a big meet next week in Albuquergue and this weekend was a tune up for that,” said head coach Jim Patchell. “We had several that were off this weekend, but those that competed continued to improve. It was an opportunity for some of the younger kids to get another chance to compete.”
Jaylen Bacon returned to action Saturday and picked up where he left off with a dominating win in the 60-meter dash. He flashed a time of 6.68 seconds to win by nearly two-tenths of a second. Elijah Ross joined Bacon in the top three, finishing third in 6.84 seconds, the fifth-fastest time in program history.
Calea Carr took home first place in the shot put with a throw of 14.81m (48-07.25) and was joined by two others for top-10 finishes in the weight throw. Erin Farmer was second (19.28m/63-03.25) while Carr was third (18.38m/60-03.75). Grace Flowers joined the top-10 with a throw of 16.76m (55-00.00) to finish seventh.
Cristian Ravar Ladislau earned a second place finish in the weight throw with a throw of 19.91m (65-04.00) while Itamar Levi placed second in shot put with throw of 17.66m (57-11.25). Coleton Clifft was eighth in the long jump, leaping 6.93m (22-09.00). Sarach Michael was just shy of her season best in the pole vault, clearing 3.73m (12-02.75) to place seventh.
Rebecca Eldien took seventh place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.85. Hayden Hampton also logged a top-10 performance, finishing ninth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.11 seconds.
The Red Wolves compete in the final tune-up ahead of the Sun Belt Conference Chamipionships next weekend at the Don Kirby Elite in Albuquerque.
