HOOVER, Ala. (10/16/20) – A total of nine runners recorded collegiate-best marks on Friday, as the Arkansas State cross country teams competed at the Blazer Classic hosted by UAB at the Veteran's Park in Hoover, Alabama.
A-State's women placed fourth as a team behind four 6K collegiate bests, while the men earned a fifth-place team finish as five runners posted their best collegiate marks in the 8K. The women were the top Sun Belt team in the race, ahead of South Alabama. The Red Wolves finished behind Louisville, Clemson and South Carolina, while placing ahead of Auburn in the top 5.
In the 6K,
Pauline Meyer paced a pack of Red Wolves that earned six top-50 finishes, including three inside the top 20. Meyer placed seventh by clocking a personal-best 21:18.68 with
Sophie Leathers placing 14
th in a personal-best 21:46.90.
Elizabeth Gillette was the third Red Wolf to cross the finish, doing so in 22:02.71 to place 17
th overall.
Elizabeth Martin placed 34
th with a personal-best 22:30.09 while
Sarah Trammel rounded out A-State's five scorers with a 44
th-place finish in 22:56.02.
McKenzie Cornell placed 47
th with a mark of 23:05.06 with
Ellie Albrecht right behind her in 49
th with a time of 23:06.28.
Heidi Hauptman also recorded a personal-best 6K time of 24:02.32 to place 71
st overall.
In the men's 8K,
Bennett Pascoe placed fifth to lead Arkansas State to a fifth-place team finish as five of eight Red Wolves recorded collegiate-best times. The Conway, Arkansas, native ran a personal-best 24:22.93 while
Lexington Hilton was the second Red Wolf to cross the line in 14
th place in a collegiate-best 24:46.58.
Gregoire Saury place 19
th in 25:05.87, shattering his previous collegiate best by over 90 seconds.
Coleman Wilson ran a personal-best 25:45.37 to place 39
th, while
Owen Habeger rounded out A-State's scorers with a 49
th-place result, running 26:06.40.
Seth Waters placed 52
nd with a time of 26:12.42 while
Logan Simington finished in a personal-best 26:55.05 to place 72
nd.
As a team, the men finished just four points behind Sun Belt counterpart South Alabama, but finished ahead of Clemson as well as conference foe Troy.
The Red Wolves will close out its final weekend of competition before the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Oct. 31, traveling to Little Rock Saturday for the Little Rock Open, held at War Memorial Park.
