CONWAY, Ark. (10/17/20) – Returning to the court for the first time since February 23, the Arkansas State women's tennis team posted two days of strong results at the 2nd UCA Fall Invitational Tournament.

A-State came away from the two-day event with eight doubles wins and 10 singles victories. Hunter Roper and Yasmine Humbert won their singles draw while Roper and Thea Rice won the flight one doubles draw.

Roper, a Valley View graduate and Xavier transfer, had an impressive start to her A-State career posting three singles victories and three wins in doubles play with Thea Rice. Roper opened singles play with a 3-6, 6-2, 10-5 decision against Leonie Schuknect of Louisiana Tech and followed with a 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 win over Chunxi Xin of Central Arkansas. Roper clinched the flight one singles draw with a straight-sets win over Ellie Burger of Missouri State 6-3, 6-3.

Roper and Rice defeated pairs from Missouri State (6-3), Louisiana Tech (6-4) and Central Arkansas (7-5) to win the flight one doubles draw. Rice, a transfer from Arkansas, had straight-sets wins over Ilana Tetruashvili (Louisiana Tech) 6-3, 6-2 and Alyson Piskulic (Missouri State) 6-4, 6-4 before falling to Fuka Nonoyama (Central Arkansas) 6-4, 6-0 to finish runner-up in the flight two singles draw.

Yasmine Humbert earned straight-set victories in two singles matches, defeating Lara Unkovich (Louisiana Tech) 6-1, 6-3 and Mary Houston (Missouri State) 6-2, 7-6. Her third-round match in flight eight was a walk over against Mei Ishimura (Central Arkansas). In doubles play, Humbert played with Nejla Zukic and the duo won their first two matches, with 6-2 defeats of pairs from Missouri State and Louisiana Tech in flight three doubles.  Humber and Zukic finished runner-up in the flight by way of a 6-3 defeat to a duo from Central Arkansas. Zukic, a transfer from Western Michigan, won her opening singles match, 7-5, 6-4, but fell in her final two singles outings.

Jill Morse won her initial singles match over Amil Madalena (Louisiana Tech) 6-1, 6-3, but came up short in her other two singles outings. Morse teamed up with Shelby King for a doubles win over a pair from Oral Roberts 6-2. Amelia Guevremont and Rebecca Brody earned two doubles victories, 7-6 (6) over Central Arkansas and 6-3 against Missouri State.
