LAREDO, Texas (2/24/20) – Opening play in the spring season, the Arkansas State men's golf team stands fourth among 17 teams at the Border Olympics played at Max Mandel Municipal Golf Course in Laredo, Texas.
The Red Wolves totaled a first round 294 (+6) to stand sixth after the first round, but a second round 284 (-4) saw A-State climb to fourth heading into the third and final round on Tuesday. Sam Houston State leads the 17-team field at 11-under (565) with UTSA (-6) and ULM (-4) ahead of A-State. No. 35 Houston is fifth at 582 (+6).
Freshman Adam Thorp has the low score through two rounds among the six Red Wolves competing. Throp is fifth in the individual standings after a first round 70 (-2) and second round 71 (-1). Senior Zan Luka Stirn was 39th after a first round 75 (+5), but climbed to a tie for 13th with a second round 69 (-3). Freshman Michael Weppernig is tied for 27th (+2), senior Julien Sale is tied for 34th (+3) and sophomore Jack Madden is tied for 58th (+6). Playing as an individual, freshman Connor Wilson is tied for 27th (+2).
The third round is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
