JONESBORO, Ark. (2/27/21) – Shelby King and Nejla Zukic led the Arkansas State women's tennis team to a 4-2 victory over Louisiana Tech Saturday in a non-conference match played at RidgePointe Country Club.
A-State improves to 1-2 on the season while the loss drops Louisiana Tech to 4-4. King teamed up with Jill Morse at No. 2 doubles and the duo earned a 7-6 victory to clinch the doubles point. Zukic was paired with Yasmine Humbert at No. 3 doubles and the pairing came away with a 6-2 victory. Thea Rice and Hunter Roper were defeated at No. 1 doubles 6-4.
In singles play, Rice earned a straight sets victory over Tetruashvili 6-0, 6-3 after Roper fell 6-4, 2-6, 1-6 to Shuskenecht at No. 1 singles. Romero defeated Morse 7-6, 7-6 to tie the match at 2-2, but King won in straight sets at No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-3 over Amil. Zukic clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Oravcova in No. 5 singles.
The Red Wolves are scheduled to open Sun Belt Conference play on Wednesday against UT Arlington. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m.
