CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (3/27/21) –
Julien Sale carded a first round 6-under par 66 to lead the Arkansas State men's golf team to a 1-under par 287 in the first day of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate at UNC Finley Golf Club in Chapel Hill, N.C.
With the start of the first round delayed by fog, A-State was among four teams to finish the opening round. Play was suspended Saturday due to storms in the area and will resume Sunday, weather permitting. A-State is fourth among 14 teams in the standings, third among teams that finished the round. Host North Carolina totaled a 12-under par 276 while Campbell opened with a 2-under par 286.
Ranked seventh nationally in the latest GolfStat individual rankings, Sale carded two eagles and four birdies in his 6-under par round. Peter Fountain, ranked 56th in the GolfStat rankings, of North Carolina leads the individual leaderboard at 7-under par 65.
Zan Luka Stirn is tied for 12th after a 1-under par 71 while
Jack Madden was tied for 39th at 2-over 74.
Luka Naglic and
Michael Weppernig are tied for 50th after rounds of 3-over par 75 and
Adam Thorp is tied for 62nd at 4-over par 76.
