JONESBORO, Ark. (4/1/21) – After several Arkansas State track and field athletes posted strong marks to open the 2021 outdoor season, the Red Wolves are set to compete in their second meet of the season Friday at Saturday at the UAB Spring Invite.
Held at the UAB Track and Field Complex in Birmingham, Alabama, the meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Friday with the men's and women's javelin. On the track, the women's and men's 1500m is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. followed by the 3000m steeplechase at 4 p.m.
Both field and track events are slated to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday morning, starting with the women's hammer throw and women's 5000m and concluding with the women's and men's 4x400m relay at 4 p.m. Due to COVID-19 policies, fans will not be allowed, but live results can be found here.

JUST THROWIN' THIS OUT THERE: Throwers stole the show in Arkansas State's first meet of the season, with five of nine total top-three finishes coming in the throwing events. Aimar Palma Simo made a splash in his outdoor debut with a win in the hammer throw, tossing the implement 65.46m (214-9.0) that ranks second in program history.
A-State posted top-five marks in the women's discus throw in Babette Vandeput and Grace Flowers while Flowers placed second in the hammer throw with a personal-best 57.50m (188-7.0). Eron Carter also recorded a personal-best 54.64m (179-3.0) to win the men's discus throw while Evangelynn Harris placed third in the women's shot put with a personal-best 14.81m (48-7.25).
HENSLEY CONTINUES STANDOUT SEASON: Sun Belt indoor pentathlon champion Allie Hensley picked up where she left off from indoor season at TCU, posting personal bests in all three events in which she competed. The Clinton, Arkansas, native placed third in the high jump with an outdoor-best 1.74m (5-8.5) and later threw the javelin a personal-best 38.08m (124-11.0) before clocking a 26.01 in the 200m.
OUTDOOR DEBUTS: After five athletes made their A-State outdoor debuts two weeks ago at TCU, 22 more (12 women, 10 men) are slated to make their first outdoor appearances in the Scarlet and Black this weekend at UAB.
UP NEXT
A-State's outdoor season continues next weekend, with athletes slated to compete in three different meets. Some Red Wolves will travel to Athens, Georgia, for the Spec Towns Invitational while others will compete in Little Rock at the Little Rock Open. A host of athletes will also be competing in Wichita, Kansas, at the Wichita State Open.
