PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. (4/15/21) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team was defeated by Troy 4-0 in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship Tournament Thursday at the Peachtree City Tennis Center.

The Trojans took the early advantage in the match with doubles victories on courts two and three to grab a 1-0 lead. In singles' competition, Troy won matches on courts three, four and six to advance to the quarterfinals round where they will play No. 1 seed South Alabama Friday. With the loss, The Red Wolves' season comes to a close with a 4-9 overall record.

In the doubles' point,
Shelby King and
Jill Morse lost to Michelle Ncube and Andrea Widing 6-2 on court two, while
Nejla Zukic and
Yasmine Humbert lost to Shevita Aulana and Matea Mihaljevic6-0.
Thea Rice and
Hunter Roper had a 5-2 advantage over Anastasiia Khokhlova and Anastasiia Khrustaleva on court one when the doubles point was clinched.

In singles' matches, Shevita Aulana downed King 6-2, 7-5 to give the Trojans the 2-0 lead in the match. Ncube gave Troy the 3-0 advantage with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Morse and Khrustaleva clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over
Rebecca Brody on court six. Rice and Mihaljevic were in a tight battle with Rice leading 6-3, 3-6, 4-2 while Roper and Khokhlova each won a set 7-5, 6-3 heading into a third frame.
