McClure Earns Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week and Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week Honors

JONESBORO, Ark. (8/24/21) – Fifth-year senior goalkeeper Megan McClure of the Arkansas State women’s soccer team was named Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week and Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the organizations announced Tuesday.

In front of a record crowd at Washington State in Thursday’s season opener, McClure had nine saves as the Arkansas State women’s soccer team came away with a 1-1 draw. The Cougars, a 2019 NCAA College Cup qualifier, scored on a penalty kick in the 73rd minute, but McClure did not concede a goal in the run of play. Saturday at Eastern Washington, McClure made one save and posted her 23rd career shutout.

McClure extended her program record with 23 career shutouts while setting the program record in minutes played with Saturday’s fixture. McClure passed Kelsey Ponder (4,485 – 2015-18) for the record as she has now logged 4,511 minutes between the posts. With a start Thursday at Missouri State, McClure will hold the career record for goalkeeper starts at 50.

This is the first Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week honor for an A-State women’s soccer player. McClure earns Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time in her career (Oct. 6, 2020).
